Finding where site hosted after domain unregistered.

Background information.

Had problem where a client’s domain was not re-registered due to falling out with original designer who had controlled the site for him.

Client was not aware of where the site had been hosted and the previous designer has modified all email addresses to point to him.

Due to this no notification of the domain needing re-registering was forwarded to the client and as such the first the client new was when it wa too late and the site went offline.

Due to the site being no longer registered all DNS information was lost. i.e Name server info etc….

As the original designer was nolonger accepting calls from the client we had to work out what the name servers were.

How this was done:

  • Client luckily remember the designers web site.
  • Using this info I did a lookup on his site via “Centralops.net” on his site to get the DNS info of his site, using their “Domain Dossier” “http://centralops.net”
  • this gave me a IP Address….
  • using this I listed all sites via teh web site “http://www.robtex.com/ip” entering the IP address in the input box on the top left hand corner
